Fairy tales and glamorous decadence at 2010's Golden Globes

Awards shows that take place at the year’s debut are the best preview of the upcoming spring season’s top trends. Golden Globes is my favorite award event (next to the Oscars, of course) and this year it was such a visual treat. Amazing, unique looks compensated for those several disappointing winning results (for me, anyway). So here are my favorite looks:

Handmade folk belts

"All our belts are made from fabric from an age old Italian webbing supplier… After we get the webbing back here, it’s sent off to a factory in Northampton to handmake the belts. The leathers we use also come from Italy [and are] veg tanned rather than chrome dyed."

GQ brings back old school elegance

A great looking menswear fashion editorial published in the December issue of GQ Italy Magazine brings back the nonchalant elegance of the 1940s. Shot by talented self-taught English photographer Matthew Brookes, "Garçons Terribles" puts on view timeless images of a restless yet polished masculinity.

Vintage folk charm at Nygardsanna

These wonderful images with a vintage effect, signed by photographer Carl Bengtsson draw together the fall/winter 2010/2011 lookbook for Swedish brand Nygårdsanna. The romantic sepia tones, outdoorsy country side setting and a blue-eyed, freckled, innocent but fierce looking model set these images in the right mood.

His pictures are dramatic and lyrical, making use of bright day light (shadow and light effects, contre-jour) digital manipulation (sepia tones, out-of-focus) and striking natural settings, showing sensuality, dreaminess and a very personal expression.

70s revival and a lot of pink

Golden Globes 2011 brought pleasant surprises both awards and fashion wise. Pink is a favorite color for the upcoming season and that was seen on the red carpet. Reddish hue “honeysuckle” seen on Lanvin gown worn by actress Julianne Moore is already nominated as it-color of the season; also lighter pink shades such as pale salmon, coral and ethereal "silver-peony" are also very fashionable.

Five clothing styles that will be popular in 2015

Harem Pants

Yoga Leggings

Yoga pants have been popular for years but now they are a fashion staple. They started out just in black but now you can find really exciting patterns. Everything from psychedelic figures to Aztec patterns to plain colors will be seen frequently this year from music festivals to yoga class.

Trouser Suit

Are you looking for a way to change up how you have been power dressing as of late? If so, the new trouser suits are going to give you a fun way to do just this. There are many different fun touches that come on trouser suits, such as twine and cowbell belts and shimmering pinstripes. While these are a bit of a throwback to some of the trouser suits of the 70s and 80s, the shoulder pads are thankfully gone.

Suede

Suede is back in business. There is always a form of leather that is popular, and suede is the current king of the mountain. These suede styles take on a vague seventies look, but come with a much more tailored design and feature A-like skirts and boot cut pants with a softer touch. These offer sturdy options that are both exceptional looking with quality stitching and a great way to stand out with the material.

Denim

Yes, denim has never really gone anywhere, and some form of jeans is always going to be in style. However, this is a more unique and different take on denim. It is time to put away those short denim shorts and try out something a bit different here. You can have fun with denim jeans that feature different sewn on accessories (not the blinding plastic jewels), such as seen on bright and festive buttons, small patches scattered throughout the design and, thankfully, no rhinestones. Plus, lace-up tops made from denim just help add to the new trend with denim. There is always something new with denim, and this is the latest release of the popular American textile.

Keep your shoulders strong!

The bold shoulder was a quite shocking trend when it reappeared on the fashion scene two seasons ago with Balmain jackets, Balenciaga tops and Givenchy couture. Not many dared to try it as the rule was you have to be as fierce as this new style.
