On the red carpet at Cannes

For almost two weeks (May 16-27) Cannes Film Festival 2007 was also a runway show bringing up an army of stars on the French coast. The film festival highlighted many of this spring trends but also launched others – my favorite being beautiful draped gowns in golden yellow and silvery grey. Angelina Jolie arrived at “Ocean's Thirteen” premiere dressed in a wonderful canary yellow silk gown by Ungaro Haute Couture. Helen Mirren wowed the crowd once again; she wore a flowing yellow freesia chiffon dress and Bar Rafaeli, Leonardo Di Caprio’s ex girlfriend, looked like a golden goddess.

Mischa Barton and Kerry Washington chose several wonderful outfits but I think the grey ones were the best, especially the tulle gown Kerry wore. She was a dream in that Jean Paul Gaultier dress! Dita Von Tease, as usually, was a retro glamour sight.

Other stars stuck to best runway looks of this spring season: Rosario Dawson, at "Death Proof" premiere, amazed the viewers with her crystal covered silver gown, a Dolce & Gabbana masterpiece. “Geisha” Zhang Ziyi wore a Chanel Haute Couture outfit and Taiwanese actress Qi Shu made her appearance in a beautiful royal blue Roberto Cavalli gown.

Cannes Film Festival, as every upright red carpet event, also saw some fashion disasters. Kitschy colors, trashy outfits and weird looking pant suits only generated blatant laughs.
