According to the biggest online fashion forecaster Trendstop, the reinvented winter sweatshirt is one of the top trends for this season, keeping its “dna” the simple crewneck silhouette and the rib-knit collar and cuffs while changing the traditional cotton jersey with modern materials: leather, fur and textured wool.
Leather and leather-panel sweatshirts in dark, autumnal colors appeared in menswear winter 2012/2013 collections at fashion labels including Givenchy, Juun J’ and Qasimi with styles ranging from vintage, aviator look in dark brown to modern sportswear or biker-style quilted black leather.
This design translated perfectly into womenswear trends for winter 2013/2014 as main designers and labels are competing for delivering must-have urban–warrior or tough-minimalist looks clothing with sportswear comfort quality for modern women.
The leather sweatshirt is a perfect match for on-trend biker jeans, military-style pants or leather pants for a complete "fierce" look or it can be dressed up with elegant tailored trousers and chiffon/lace skirts. This sleek sweatshirt appeared in some of resort 2014 collections and its clean, chic design recommends it as a future wardrobe classic.
An even more luxurious and cozier alternative is the fur sweater (faux-fur at Antonio Berardi) that can be worn as outerwear this winter and teamed up with statement skirts be it a leather/patent one, or a short pleated one, for a nice play of textures. Thigh high boots complete the most glamorous take on 90’s fashion.
