Textured surface is a must for black-on-black outfits. Stylish trenches and spring coats have precious, jewel embellishments, frills and ruffles; casual pieces such as tops, a pocketed mini-dress or a tunic feature tucks, folds, pleats, stud or sequin trimmings.

Silky, shiny, sheer or self-textured fabrics such as lace also add interest to black. As for the iconic Little Black Dress, resort 2009 collections didn't lack in modern versions of this perfect number.
