How to find the perfect ring size?

Looking to buy wedding rings?  The wedding jewellery collection abounds in a variety of metal choices like platinum, gold, silver, titanium, zirconium, etc. And as there are numerous types of metals to choose, so are there different styles of rings to select from including two toned, patterned, plain, and shaped among others. Which of these choices turns out to be most appealing depends totally on the personal taste and preferences of a person. Hence, no matter what your choice is, make sure that the ring size fits you well. Although only jewellers can provide best help in this matter, you can also try taking finger measurement at home because a perfect size does matter here!

Tips for taking the perfect ring size

Nowadays, online wedding jewellery stores (such as Orla James) offer you free ring sizer tools to enable you to measure your finger size hassle-free. You can place order for one on their website for home delivery and use it to get the perfect measurement for your finger. The ring sizer can look like a cable tie. Till the time it reaches you, you can try other means also, such as a strip of paper or a piece of string. However, for doing this, you would need to grab a printable ring sizer for an accurate size reference.

When you use paper or string for measuring finger, make sure that along with the base of your finger you slip it around your knuckles as well.  Mark the area of the paper or string with a pen where the long ends meet each other. When this is done, place the marked area of the paper or string from the end of the length against a ruler and refer to the metric side for an accurate understanding. Next, compare the metric size with the printable free ring sizer and pick the larger fit if the measurement falls between two sizes.

If this appears to be uncomfortable, then there is another option as well. Download a circular ring-sizing chart from the Internet that contains varying sizes of circles. Take a ring and slip it on the intended finger and if it is a comfortable fit, place that on the circles shown in the paper.  Finally, note down the number mentioned on that circle whose inside matches with the ring you had tried.

Few Points to Remember

  • For taking accurate measurement, it is important that when you take the size of your finger, your body temperature is normal. The reason is cold fingers happen to shrink in size. To obtain best results, you can wait till the end of the day when fingers tend to be their normal size.
  • Also as pointed out earlier, if you find two comfortable sizes, go with the larger one. A regular size ring might feel little uncomfortable later.
  • After taking the measurement of the base of your finger and the knuckles, choose a size that falls between the two of them.

These are some basic things that have to be kept in mind while selecting the size of wedding rings. In case you don’t feel confident about the measurement you have taken, you can always rely on the services of the wedding jewellery stores and their assistance in finding the suitable fit.
