Fall 2009-Winter 2010 season has an exciting offer of LBDs - the ultimate staple of the feminine wardrobe. Among the "plethora" of sophisticated and very flattering black dresses, the leather(y) ones put a contemporary spin on the iconic LBD, although the "now" factor won't prevent them from becoming classical items themselves.
Favorite fw09/10 leather LBDs: Chanel, Michael Kors, Jeremy Laing and Helmut Lang.
If you consider investing in a leather LBD look for a well fitted, sharp tailored one that is not too tight or too revealing. A high thigh slit, a low back or a plunging v neck are adequate details for a smart seductive look.Online shops are, besides a guilty pleasure (oops), a welcomed alternative to overpriced high-end stores. Just found this great looking Alice+Olivia leather dress with bow detail on sale at Bluefly for $369.75.
And the sleek Gwen dress from Dutch label La Dress by Simone shown below is truly "a celebration of femininity". At € 450 is not exactly affordable but you won't have to rob a bank either. And if you look for something eco-friendly and less expensive check this Black Leatherette Dress at $ 220.00 from New York label Built By Wendy.
Another great thing about leather LBDs is that they look great with the season's trendiest shoes such as platform stilettos, peep-toe booties or suede bandage heels but they also successfully upgrade classic pumps.
Next two leather mini shift dresses aren't exactly LBD's, too sporty/casual for my taste, but they fit perfectly a teen fashionista. Mango dress, £119.00 at Asos and the one from Warehouse, priced at €156.00, highlight pretty legs and cool ankle boots.
What do you think about the black leather dress? Is it the next classical piece in your wardrobe?
