Valentino Couture Spring 2008

Valentino Garavani said goodbye to fashion world with his last couture show held on the 23rd of January, 2008. And what a farewell it was! The collection was an impressive array of over seventy outfits celebrating a long and successful career.

It wasn't a retrospective, but a lesson of impeccable technique and old-school glamour, a legacy of fashion loveliness Valentino leaves in the hands of Alessandra Facchinetti, the ex-Gucci designer.

The collection embraced Valentino signature style: double-faced coats, cocktail skirt suits and sheath dresses; beautiful draping, beaded chiffon, lace, flower prints and satin bows, all in a beautiful and soft pastel color palette.

The couture show didn't entirely follow fashion trends but there were outstanding pieces with a timeless appeal. It will be Facchinetti's mission to capture the essence of Valentino and turn it in a modern direction.

The standout moments were the evening gowns in white, pale-pink and silvery gray. The latter, a tiered strapless column has already being spotted at the BAFTAs.

God they're beautiful. It's Copenhagen Fashion Week right now and we are not even slightly as glamorous as this. My favourite has to be the pale-pink one. It's timeless and absolutely wonderful. Valentino has always been one of my favourite couture designers.

I think they all look amazing, but I am not sure about the bell shaped hats in the top photo.

I adore these, they are amazing..I'm with you on hats Dave, not sure I like the bell shape

Wow I love the last set. I like them all, but the last set is wonderful. I wanted to be a fashion designer, but that didn't work out. I still love fashion and this is one of my favorite lines.

I don't think that the hats match their cloths in the first pic!

Beautiful women but why hide their faces in those hideous bell hats. Outfits are very nice, but the hats have to go!

WoW!! the dresses look terrific!! and the women are gorgeous! except for the hat!
