Denim trends: from bleached to indigo

Resort 2014 collections show a wide range of denim pieces; resort fashion season is known for displaying wearable clothes, but it’s still a surprise that this universal fabric is considered so hip. The trends of 2013: double denim looks, bleached denim, denim work shirts are still going strong. Designers use more and more softer fabrics with denim appearance: chambray, lyocell and even silk at Jason Wu.

The fashion world took a better look at denim since Stella McCartney’s spring 2010 seventies-inspired collection showing buttoned down skirts and an overall dress. After that, for spring 2011 she sent down the runaway various light blue denim pieces (jackets, tunics, skirts and trouser shorts). Since then there has been a more grown up approach to denim alongside the ubiquitous jeans.

Slim jeans, cropped or roll up to graze the ankles, work shirts, square jackets and flare shorts are recurrent light-wash denim designs for year 2013. Light wash and bleached denim go well with white breezy separates suitable for summer and resort vacations. Roberto Cavalli puts a bohemian spin on white jeans for resort 2014 with paisley prints and folk embroideries.

Indigo and mid blue denims have a more polished look, designed as lean jeans or a skirt suit at Acne Studios spring 2013 collection and cut as simple stone-washed sheath dress in the pre-fall 2013 collection of Theyskens’ Theory. For resort 2014 dark blue denim has been embraced by luxury brands such as Valentino and Jason Wu. The latter used denim-look blue silk.
