Pencil leather skirts emerged as a trend throughout spring 2009 New York collections. And not only skirts; slick jackets, dresses and even leather tops that placed this material in a sophisticated area, pushing it forward from the fetishistic/stereotype category.
And, with today's technology development, artificial leather versions like latex and all sort of high-tech pvc coated fabrics are more comfortable, softer and look even better than leather; so it has never been more easier and classier to make a eco-friendly choice.

Anyway, back to the leather pencil skirts: designers teamed them for spring 2009 season with feminine, draped or printed tops. Except Rag & Bone that paired a mini leather skirt with a zippered vest (Actually that is my favorite look).
Hollywood fashionista, Gwyneth Paltrow sports a pretty slick look on the red carpet. She attended the launch of her new show, "Spain...On The Road Again", at the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute on Sunday in New York, wearing a smart-casual outfit: a leather pencil skirt teamed with a black blazer (with rolled up sleeves), a simple grey tank, thick black tights and black stilettos.
