Copenhagen Fashion Week spring-summer 2012 (August 2011) brought together the best of Danish labels. My favorite shows were as usual By Malene Birger, Bruuns Bazaar, Baum und Pferdgarten, Stine Goya, Wackerhaus. An astonishing surprise was the debut collection of designer Anne Sofie Madsen, graduate of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Design in 2010. Her diploma project received praise in the fashion press and she was invited to show at London Fashion Week's Vauxhall Fashion Scout Show in February 2010.
Her capsule collection for spring 2012 season, presented at Copenhagen Fashion Week, reveals impressive couture expertise reflecting her experience as junior designer at the House of Alexander McQueen in London. She has also worked/interned at Peclers, the Parisian trend forecaster and at John Galliano fashion house.
Anne is also an accomplished illustrator with two books being published this year. Drawing plays a big part in her design work. The stunning surreal prints from the spring/summer 2012 collection are good proof of her illustration skills.
The Anne Sofie Madsen spring 2012 collection was inspired by Japanese culture, mixing avant-garde, high fashion tailoring and details (appliqué, cut-outs) with simple, wearable pieces, from utilitarian sleeveless jackets to sheer and silky tee/kimono dresses to zip-fastened origami-pleated dresses or coats made from a complex network of braids.
This debut collection puts Danish design school and fashion industry in line with international high standards.
