Roisin Murphy's erratic style

Roisin Murphy's style
Roisin Murphy's style

Europe's disco diva Roisin Murphy might not be a huge pop star (in fact I love she is not in the mainstream) but she is an untiringly muse for couturiers and an undoubtedly style icon.

Her fashion sense matches the eclectic music she's known for, a cutting-edge electronic, pop and dance mix, with references going from her idol Grace Jones to David Bowie circa Ziggy Stardust era.

Roisin Murphy's style

Murphy's unpredictable fashion choices for stage and videos as well as for public appearances are always eccentric with a constant taste for couture pieces.

She fancies avant-garde designers such as Gareth Pugh, Martin Margiela and also ultra luxury brands like Givenchy, Chanel and YSL, mixing them altogether in a unique look.

About her personal style, Roisin thinks it's ok to getting all (fashion) wrong as long as you stay true to yourself and she doesn't believe in (the need for) stylists.

Her signature style is captured by coats with oversized shoulders, feathers or fur boleros, fringed leather jackets, military touches, button-downs, all kinds of head pieces especially tall hats, berets and couture pieces. Even when she sports a girly outfit such as a sheath dress, or the most casual jeans she always adds one or two quirky notes.

A sarcastic touch

Daniel Mackie, Film Critic

From politics to philosophy, or simple life-scenes, Daniel Mackie recreates reality with a good touch of sarcasm and also by mixing free-hand drawing (with a 2B pencil) and water coloring with digital illustration using Photoshop.

Are suspenders this fall's trend?

Suspenders trend

I'm not sure what to think about the suspenders trouser pants/overalls trend. 70s inspired wide-leg pants, in neutral shades look fine but you should be careful what you wear them with. Stick to a feminine classy look: a delicate bow neck shirt or a...

A trend to keep: the Maxi-Dress

Maxi-Dress

As opposed to last years mini length this summer maxi dress was on everyone's mind, both loved and hated. First maxi dresses appeared in major spring/summer 2008 collections and then they were seen on all "it" girls of the moment. While a...

Style on a budget: Recreating a Marc Jacobs look

Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs is one of my favorite designers, not necessarily for his designs, which aren’t that brilliant, but for the impeccable styling of his shows and for the straightforward American spirit he sends forth.

Style on a budget: Balenciaga Fall 2007 Look

Balenciaga Fall
The fashion world is crazy about this season's Balenciaga collection. Everyone wants or speaks about those schoolboy blazers, fringe ethnic scarves and "patchwork" dresses. I must admit that I'm not a Nicolas Ghesquière fan but I love the multicultural...

8 March Outfit

8 March Outfit

I wish you all fashionistas out there a Happy International Women's Day and here is my idea for a perfect 8 March outfit: sweet, feminine but also very modern thanks to masculine accents such as a loose silver blazer and a wide watch cuff.
