Romanian Fashion Week

Diana DondoeDiana Dondoe

The biggest fashion event in Romania, RFW took place at Ia?i and lasted for three days (from 8 to 10th of May). Well known designers and gifted new comers have launched their ready-to-wear collections for next fall.

Top model Diana Dondoe (picture left) was there on her first runway show for a compatriot designer. She wore a quilted dusty pink jacket with metallic grey wide-leg pants and layered jersey tops. The"Irina Schrotter" outfit she wore was complemented with 10 inches platforms and a mock Prada turban (though I'm not sure, I think the designer was serious about the turban).

Here is a brief overview of fall trends: layers, satin and soft fabrics, voluminous knits as well as masculine influence, textured leather and more simple lines. As for colors, a soft, cool palette - white, black, grey and earthly hues- was spiced up with hints of red, yellow and royal blue.

Futurism, retro romantic, woman power and eclectic looks were the main themes. Playful, punky looks and artisan detailing were opposed to more grown-up outfits, simple lines and delicate prints. And there was a lot of interesting fastening and buttoning.

Although most collection lacked good tailoring and Romanian designers still have to learn how to express their ideas I can only hope that this festival will be soon on international fashion agenda.
