Milan Top Three Spring 2008 Collections

Alberta Ferretti is one of my favorite designers as, no matter the main theme of the season is, she always manages to bring forward romance and softness. Her lovely collection for spring 2008 was inspired by Ancient Rome: draped gowns, toga like tunics and “gladiator” skirts. There were also t-shirt dresses with oxidized crystal jewelling on the neck line or used as belts and vertically pleated jackets and coats. The subtle palette was, at times, punctuated by hints of “fire” red, yellow and violet.

Bottega Veneta is a fashion label that never falls short of its clients expectations. Subtle, elegant, minimalist are the main features here. I just love the neutral shades and the retro tailoring. Somehow those crinkle-creased shirtdresses reminded me the old-time stars of “Il Cinema Italiano”. There were elegant trenches, “deux-piece” outfits and goddess draped gowns. Also, the wedges and the oxidized-leather belts and bags will surely be on next spring it list.

The 2008 spring collection at Burberry Prorsum was a sassy one with a rock chick vibe: body conscious dresses, leather belts studded with military medallions and stacks of chain bracelets. There were lots of short chiffon, tulle and organdy dresses and different versions of the classic trench: from lightweight sophisticated to very rock. And I’m sure those accessories will be the next must-haves.
