The art and functionality mix sounds like an abstract, unidentifiable notion but it is given a lively representation through Sarah Williams’ debut collection of surreal luggage. The young British designer, a recent graduate from London College of Fashion designed for her 2010 MA thesis project a collection of unique fashion artifacts by transforming traditional craftsmanship through the vision of Salvador Dali’s art.
Her debut line of travel bags, travel cases, suitcases and briefcases called Williams British Handmade aims at making exceptional craftsmanship the norm in fashion design. All of the curved luggage pieces, that look like they’re melting or even self-dividing, colored in delicious powder shades of red, brown, caramel and light blue are of limited edition or custom-made.
They’re handmade from top quality traditional bridle leather, using established techniques of saddle stitching with brass frames created by a metal craft expert. For her surreal looking luggage designs Sarah was also awarded with the Accessories Collection of the Year by ITS (International Talent Support).
