Jennifer Connelly is one of my favorite actresses, so charismatic with her refined beauty and intelligent aura while Steven Meisel is at the top of the fashion photographers list for the retro vibe of his imagery and the ability to tell an interesting story. While Balenciaga isn't quite my fashion fantasy, I appreciate its avant-garde creativity.
Therefore, the fall 2009 ad campaign for Balenciaga starring Connelly and shot by Steven Meisel had all the qualities for being a great, memorable one (for me, anyway). The dark mood with backdrop faded colors, vintage/antique setting and still-life painting-inspired styling did impress me but what I love most about it is mysterious and paly looking Jennifer posing on unsteadily-leaning, frozen-in-time furniture as if she would have just come to life. Isn't Balenciaga simply brilliant?
