After borrowing rich colors from brilliant painters like Rembrandt and Vermeer for their fall 2007 collections, designers kept an artistic mood and, for spring 2008, they came up with one of kind abstract painterly prints. This trend brings forward a palette of clear, intense colors with splashes of white and black.

Second row: Dolce & Gabbana, Marios Schwab, Marni and Giles.
The dress becomes canvas for vibrant, fluid-looking prints, brush strokes or drops of paint saturated in clear, bright color. Dolce & Gabbana evoke the painter work clothes, all sprinkled with paint. At Clare Tough the print reminds me of a Jackson Pollock painting. The Modernism movement must have influenced Marni and Marios Schwab as well.
