Awarded movie director makes a lyrical video for Maiyet

New York-based ethical luxury label, Maiyet, enlisted American film director Cary Fukunaga (of multi-awarded Sin Nombre (2009) and critically acclaimed Jane Eyre (2011) and True Detective (2014) reputation) to envision a short film dedicated to Maiyet Resort 2013 collection. The result is a trailer-like romantic clip, titled Sleepwalking in the rift, which tells the story of a blossoming love in the beautiful setting of Kenya.

Starring up-and-coming Hollywood actress Haley Bennett as the first-time visitor to the Eastern Africa country and Swedish actor Fares Fares as the hired ranger guide, the film was shot in three days time, based on improvisations and quick rehearsals and also capturing spontaneous reactions to the beauty of wild nature.

The charming, lyrical story unravels in a 30-minute series of short vignettes in which Haley wears several key outfits from Maiyet collection. Choosing Kenya as location for the resort 2013 ad campaign video follows the New York label’s mission to promote artisan communities all over the world while the straightforward style of the filming captures the honest, collaborative essence of Maiyet.
