Painting limericks: Duy Huynh

Duy Huynh, Eternal Companions
Duy Huynh, Eternal Companions

For Duy Huynh (pronounced Yee Wun) drawing was his way of settling in a strange world as a youngster immigrant. Years passed and the Vietnamese-born artist kept his childhood passion as a means of living after graduating from UNC Charlotte, North Carolina with a degree in painting and illustration.

Duy Huynh, Flightless Birds Of A FeatherDuy Huynh, Flightless Birds Of A Feather

His acrylic paintings turn witty wordplays and symbols into lyrical narratives that speak about emotional struggle. One’s loneliness, displacement, confusion or remorse as well as views on lovers’ troubles or perpetual journeys are depicted in a serene, dream-like manner, mixed with bits of wild nature. As inspiring sources the artist uses his personal thoughts and feelings as well as various roots: from music and movies to ancient folklore and comic books.
